TRANSFORMERS

HUNDREDS IN INVENTORY ALL GUARANTEED 1 YEAR!

At SIB Electric, we offer transformers at competitive prices both Used & New.

USED TRANSFORMERS: Our used transformers are tested according to our high standards, painted if necessary and have an ONE YEAR WARRANTY. To allow you additional savings, it is possible to offer you a transformer tested, guaranteed one year, but not painted (ideal for a temporary installation). You need a transformer only for a few weeks / months? We offer you the possibility to rent it.

NEW TRANSFORMERS: To serve you better, we are keeping new transformers in stock. If we do not have the transformer you are looking for, we will be pleased to offer you a new transformer with a reasonable delivery time at a very competitive price.

ANATOMY OF THE TRANSFORMER

A transformer is used to increase and reduce a primary and secondary voltage. Several types of transformers are available for different applications. The most common voltages are 600 / 480V 3PH, 600-120 / 208V 3PH, 600 / 240V 3PH, 600 120 / 240V 1PH, 600-380V 3PH and 600-400V 3PH.

The abbreviation KVA comes from “Kilo Volt Ampere” which designates the output rate that a transformer can supply for a specific time at a secondary voltage rate and rated frequency without exceeding the specified temperature rise. (1 kVA = 1000 VA, or 1000 volts amps).

HERE ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES TRANSFORMERS THAT WE CAN OFFER:

ISOLATION: Transformer that isolates the primary circuit from the secondary circuit. Also known as a transformer with two windings or isolation transformer.

AUTOTRANSFORMER: The primary and secondary of an autotransformer are on the same winding. More economical, it is often used as an alternative when required for an motor, for heating, industrial machinery, and which does not require a driver to neutral.

NEMA 1: Ventilated general purpose housing for indoor use.

NEMA 2: Housing for indoor use providing a degree of protection against a small amount of waterfall and dust.

NEMA 3: Housing for indoor use (sprinklers) and outdoor.

NEMA 4: Housing for indoor or outdoor non-ventilated use. It is designed to provide a degree of protection against dirt and rain carried by gusts of wind, splashing water, water directly from the garden hoses, and damage caused by the formation of external ice.

NEMA 12: Non-ventilated internal housing designed with a degree of protection against ambient dust and non-corrosive liquid flows and dirt. Often used in refineries.

ENCAPSULATED: Used when any of the following conditions are present: moisture, corrosive vapors or dust. Can be installed outdoors or indoors. Encapsulated transformers are constructed with a mixture of silica sand and epoxy resin, or other coating material, which forms a mass encompassing the core and coils. They are, by the way, a little heavier.

C802.2: The Office for Energy Efficiency of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has amended the Energy Efficiency Regulations in Canada. This standard has been in force in Canada for a few years but not required in Quebec for the moment. These transformers are energy efficient which can help you optimize your energy costs.

K FACTOR: Corrects deformations of the sine wave caused by harmonics. This problem is common with non-linear loads such as computers, fax machines, and variable speed drives. Harmonics can cause the following problems: transformer overheating and high current on the secondary neutral. (Secondary three-phase assembly in Zig-Zag)

ZIG-ZAG TRANSFORMER: These high-quality three-phase transformers are electrostatically shielded. Unlike K-type transformers designed for use in installations that generate harmonic currents, transformers in this series reduce harmonic currents related to power supply.

TRANSFORMER FOR DRIVES / INVERTERS: Used to power DC or AC drives.

COAST GUARD: Used on boats.
